Stress modulation of visuomotor binding.

چکیده
The primate cortex represents perceived and produced events in a distributed way, which calls for a mechanism that integrates their features into coherent structures. Animal, drug, and patient studies suggest that the local binding of visual features is under muscarinic-cholinergic control, whereas visuomotor binding seems to be driven by dopaminergic pathways. Consistent with this picture, we present evidence that the binding of visual features and actions is modulated by stress, induced by the cold pressure test (CPT), which causes an excessive dopamine turnover in prefrontal cortex. The impact of stress was restricted to the task-relevant visuomotor binding, supporting claims that dopamine affects the maintenance of task-relevant information in working memory. The outcome pattern, including the impact of the personality trait extraversion, suggests that the relation between dopamine level and visuomotor performance follows an inverted U-shaped function, with strongest binding being associated with average dopamine levels.

The temporal evolution of feedback gains rapidly update to task demands.
Recent theoretical frameworks such as optimal feedback control suggest that feedback gains should modulate throughout a movement and be tuned to task demands. Here we measured the visuomotor feedback gain throughout the course of movements made to "near" or "far" targets in human subjects. The visuomotor gain showed a systematic modulation over the time course of the reach, with the gain peakin...
متن کاملThe effect of stress and glucocorticoids on modulation of pain in mice: Interaction with activation of voltage dependent Ca2+ channel
Previous studies indicated that stress and glucocorticoids have modulatory effects on acute pain. The aim of present study was to determine the interaction between stress and glucocorticoids with activation of voltage dependent Ca2+ channel on modulation of acute pain in mice. Male albino mice (25-30 g) were used for this experiment. Tail flick and hot plate were used for evaluation of analgesi...

The Role of Visuomotor Regulation Processes on Perceived Audiovisual Events Gerome Aleandro Manson Master of Science Graduate Department of Exercise Sciences University of Toronto 2013 Recent evidence suggests audiovisual perception changes as one engages in action. Specifically, if an audiovisual illusion comprised of 2 flashes and 1 beep is presented during the high velocity portion of upperl...
متن کاملDynamic modulation of cerebellar excitability for abrupt, but not gradual, visuomotor adaptation.
The cerebellum is critically important for error-driven adaptive motor learning, as evidenced by the fact that cerebellar patients do not adapt well to sudden predictable perturbations. However, recent work has shown that cerebellar patients adapt much better if the perturbation is gradually introduced. Here we explore physiological mechanisms that underlie this distinction between abrupt and g...
